Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou) (hereinafter referred to as the "JGS") is the first Chinese-foreign cooperative joint graduate school in China approved by the Ministry of Education. Parallel to the JGS, the Monash University-Southeast University Joint Research Institute (Suzhou) has been established. It constitutes a multidisciplinary integrated scientific research platform, and supports research activities of graduate students as well as the joint training for doctoral candidates.
The 2026 admission for the joint PhD program of the JGS will be conducted in parallel with the full-time doctoral admission of Southeast University. A total of 50 non-directed full-time jointly trained doctoral candidates are planned to be enrolled in 2026.
I. Admission Requirements
Applicants shall comply with the provisions specified in the 2026 Full-time Doctoral Admission Brochure of Southeast University (hereinafter referred to as the "Brochure"), and the 2026 Doctoral Candidate Application Guidelines of Southeast University (hereinafter referred to as the "Application Guidelines").

III. Admission Methods
Admission methods include application-assessment system andmaster to PhD continuous program. Please refer to theBrochurefor relevant requirements. Master's students enrolled in the JGS can only apply for master to PhD continuous program in their third year of study.
IV. Procedures
Procedures shall be implemented in accordance with theBrochure andApplication Guidelines. The list of supervisors available and explanatory notes will be released later.

If an application is returned due to incomplete documentation after evaluation, the latest time for submission of supplementary materials is 12:00, December 3, 2025.No late submissions will be processed.
When completing the online application, applicants must select "SEU-Monash Joint Training Program" under Special Program 2.
V. Enrolment
Proposed admission to the SEU-Monash Joint PhD Program requires applicants to first meet the proposed admission criteria for doctoral candidates at Southeast University, and simultaneously meet the English language proficiency requirements for enrolment at Monash University. Applicants who do not qualify through direct language pathways may meet the English language requirement by completing the English Degree Program (EDP) organized by Monash College. The EDP is a 10-week program with a tuition fee of RMB 8,000.
(1) Applicants who pass the comprehensive assessment and have already met Monash University’s English proficiency requirements at the time of doctoral assessment will be proposed for admission to the SEU-Monash Joint PhD Program, and will receive an admission letter from Southeast University and an admission letter (offer) from Monash University.
The admitted doctoral candidates may choose to enrol in either the spring intake or the autumn intake. Following enrolment, they will complete enrolment and registration concurrently at Southeast University and Monash University.
(2) Applicants who pass the comprehensive assessment but have not yet met Monash University’s English proficiency requirements at the time of assessment will have their proposed admissionstatus at Southeast Universityreserved temporarily. Such applicants must meet Monash University’s English proficiency requirements either by completing the EDP course or by sitting an approved English language proficiency test. Those who meet the English proficiency requirements by the end of May of the same year will beofficially proposed for admission to the SEU-Monash Joint PhD Program; otherwise, their proposed admission status at Southeast University will be revoked.
They will enrol in the autumn intake and complete the registration at both universities concurrently.
VI. Training of Doctoral Candidates under Joint Program
1. The doctoral candidates under the joint program shall be supervised jointly by supervisor groups from Southeast University and Monash University.
2. During their studies, these doctoral candidates are required to undertake study and research at the Melbourne campus of Monash University for a period of no less than one year (excluding circumstances where they are unable to study at Monash University due to force majeure factors such as visa issues). The specific study period shall be determined according to the arrangements of supervisors and the progress of research projects. Both Monash University and Southeast University shall provide certain financial support for students’ overseas study.
3. Students must meet the doctoral graduation and degree conferral requirements of both Southeast University and Monash University. Only upon fulfillment of the dual requirements will the two universities respectively confer doctoral degree certificates. Admitted students under the joint doctoral training program shall not be awarded a standalone doctoral degree from either single university.
VII. Program Duration, Maximum Study Period and Tuition Fee Standard
The program duration and maximum study period for such doctoral candidates shall comply with the regulations for full-time doctoral candidates of Southeast University, and shall also conform to relevant requirements of Monash University.
Tuition fees shall be charged in accordance with the standard rate for full-time doctoral candidates of Southeast University, namely RMB 10,000 per student per academic year. Monash University will waive the tuition fees within the program duration for joint training doctoral candidates.
